Meaghan Cherry – Cherry PIT

After a few years learning to be a barista in my hometown in the state of Washington, I received a special opportunity to work as a full-time worker in another country– Kosovo. In the vibrant capital of a small young country, I joined the team at a special coffee shop aimed at building community for the college campus next door as well as anyone who stopped by for coffee.

It’s just a place, filled with delicious drinks, desserts, and any board game you could want to play where busy people take time to stop and enjoy being together. I came on to support both the coffee shop staff as a manager and barista, as well as the meeting new people and learning to love them in that special way that has been given me by grace.

The goal is to build a community space open to all, where board games and coffee can lead to conversations about meaningful things, like life and love. We have a small discussion group that meets every Wednesday in the basement space of the shop.

My week is spent working with the barista team, training them to be able to make a living on their own, helping with the community groups, hosting girls’ nights, and spending time mentoring young students.

The greatest joy of my work is getting to live everyday life with friends in our community and finding ways to talk about truth and life and love and things that really matter.
